European Traditional Festival: May Day
May Day is European traditional folk festival and in each year on April 30th,ugg classic cardy people hold it to celebrate the advent of spring and the agriculture harvest. May Day has a long history standing, which is originated from the ancient Oriental and then comes to Europe. On that day, people usually plant green branches or a young tree, which are decorated by corolla and flowers. On that day, girls carrying wreath made by green bough sing song of praise about May Day from door to door, whishing the host. In some villages, young people accompanying by songs go to cut branches and return when the sun comes out. Then the branches they brought back will be inserted on the doors and windows.
On May Day the most important activity is choosing the queen of the May symbolizing the spring. The queen wears garlands and is surrounded by the parade. There is another characteristic that should arouse our attention. The main element in May Day is fire, which is throughout all the activities. During the days, all the fire should be extinguished and a new holy fire seed would be lit up, which can protect the family. Whatrsquo;s more, they would make bonfire. Before several weeks, no matter boys or girls want to collect wood for the bonfire that in their minds this is a pride for them to do something for their village. The bonfire is always arranged in the early time in the afternoon. All the children ranging from different ages have match in their pockets and walk back and forth around the bonfire. With the fire flaming and warm situation, people begin to tell the story one after another. How beautiful and warm the scene is! It is May Day that gives us a sense of calm and peace, which is needed in the busy society.
